LIBERATE 2013 Profile: Steve Brown

You should live your life with such freedom that uptight Christians doubt your salvation.

Steve Brown is coming to LIBERATE 2013 to speak on grace in freedom. He is President of Key Life Network and Professor Emeritus of Preaching and Pastoral Ministry at Reformed Theological Seminary and is the author of numerous books, including A Scandalous Freedom: The Radical Nature of the Gospel (Howard Books, 2004) and more recently, Three Free Sins (Howard Books, 2012). Here is what Steve had to say about his talk: Recently a number of pastors were in a meeting and my name came up. (I got it second hand.) There was a comment from one of the pastors (and the rest concurred) to the effect that I was dangerous and should be avoided. I get criticized a lot and it always surprises me. I don’t think of myself as that irritating or dangerous. Good heavens!  How could an old guy who looks like Santa Claus be dangerous? During my session at Liberate 2013, I’m going to teach you how to be dangerous so you can get criticized, too.  Actually I’m going to teach you what Martin Luther taught me. This is what he said:

There are some who have no understanding to hear the truth of freedom and insist upon their goodness as means for salvation.  These people you must resist, do the very opposite, and offend them boldly lest by their impious views they drag many with them into error.  For the sake of liberty of the faith do other things which they regard as the greatest of sins… use your freedom constantly and consistently in the sight of and despite the tyrants and stubborn so that they may learn that they are impious, that their law and works are of no avail for righteousness, and that they had no right to set them up.

You should live your life with such freedom that uptight Christians doubt your salvation.
